Two Birds Cafe, Collingwood

ABOUT Two Birds Cafe, Collingwood

The Two Birds project involved the conversion of a small sandwich shop into a vibrant inner city cafe. The renovation consisted of expanding a small corner-store into the adjoining tenancy, thus occupying the entire ground floor of a nineteenth century heritage building. The original volcanic rock walls and rough masonry brickwork –with cracks and unevenly cut stone – revealed the integrity and understated elegance of the original building. Track lighting was used throughout the dining area to emphasis the linier footprint of the cafe, with the exception of a Posca Pen feature light over the communal table. As these pens have been used widely for graffiti, we decided to install this light as a nod to the vibrant neighbourhood street art scene.
